Dangerous Waters on AWE

Dangerous Waters

A small expedition of brave men take voyage across the Bering Strait on personal motorized water crafts for an adventure of a lifetime.

One Big Dream

Five men on four watercraft make an ambitious attempt to travel from Seattle Washington, though the Canadian inside passage, the Alaskan inside passage, into the Bering Sea and cross the Bering Strait to Russia.

After spending the night in a Canadian ghost town the team push north and arrive in Alaskan waters. Forced to overnight on a deserted beach the men experience incredible wildlife then retrofit their watercraft in Petersburg Alaska.

The Retrofit

Traveling through Southeast Alaska the team experiences glaciers up close while testing all of their new gear on the Stikine River. Expedition Leader Steven Moll suffers a catastrophic breakdown and the team may have to leave their leader behind.

The Breaking Point

The expedition gets caught in a small craft advisory just below Haines Alaska with members of the team getting thrown into the frigid waters. Patrick’s watercraft is replaced and the men find themselves sinking in the Gulf of Alaska.

Northern Waters

Rescued, the expedition finds itself on Afognak Island among enormous Brown Bears. The men cross the Shelikoff Straits, notorious for sinking ships and end up on a deserted beach out of fuel. Steven makes an emergency call for help.

Tragedy & Triumphs

A pilot from Kodiak risks the dangerous flight to refuel the expedition and the men are forced to camp among the prime habitat of enormous Brown Bears. Dangers are amplified when the crew finds a shipwreck and the men question Steven’s leadership.

On the Edge

After overcoming enormous odds the expedition enters the Bering Sea. With huge waves, fading light, fog and rain the men and their machines are hoisted onto a crab vessel to spend the night. A team member calls it quits.

The Bering Sea

The expedition attempts a 100-mile open water crossing in the Bering Sea. A team member nears hypothermia. Fall approaches and the men fear they may never reach the Bering Strait.

The End of the Line

Steven uses every resource available to get the expedition to Nome Alaska. Steven develops a high fever and the team goes to work without their leader. The men see herds of caribou along the shore and end up camping on the edge of the world.

The Bering Strait

It’s a quiet morning as the expedition faces their final day and attempt to cross the Bering Strait. The men try to get fuel from the small native village of Wales. The seas turn huge and the men face their worst fears.

Back to the Bering

The men return to the Bering Strait nine months after their first failed attempt to cross into Russian waters. Excitement builds but the weather will not cooperate so the men take refuge in the small native settlement of Wales.

After a successful crossing of the Bering Strait the men have been taken into custody at gunpoint by the Russian Military. The expedition is in jeopardy as the military will not let the men go and detain them for several days.

No Confidence

The expedition is forced to cross back across, but Steven tries to convince the men to re-route and head through the Northwest Passage. Tempers flare and morale sinks as the expedition gets caught in a shallow lagoon.

A Mutiny of One

The men free themselves from the lagoon but Andrew's attitude begins to effect the team. North bound the men push above the Arctic Circle and are forced to overnight in Kotzebue. Steven puts Andrew on notice.

For Miles & Miles

The team attempts their longest day of travel yet and end up camping on a beach with huge Brown Bears. An Arctic storm traps the men at a native village on the North slope of Alaska.

Ice Cold

In route to Barrow the team get stuck in a maze of Arctic Ice. Steven is forced to send one of the crew home while the men prepare to push into the Beaufort Sea.

Scrambling to prepare leaving Barrow the men sell the extra watercraft for additional fuel money. The team experience the worst ocean conditions in two seasons and get stranded at an abandoned DEW line site.

Prudoe Bay

Completely out of fuel the team is stuck waiting for the weather to clear and a plane to resupply the expedition. The men hunt for caribou and cook fresh meat on an open fire.

Going for Broke

Camping on the edge of Prudhoe Bay the team must face the financial realities of the expedition. Prices for fuel continue to rise as the expedition arrive at the last village in the United States, Kaktovik.

On the Edge

The men fear they may have to turn back unless they can find local help with getting fuel out to the Canadian border. With an Arctic storm bearing down on the village the expedition pushes boldly ahead into the unknown.
